Types of sin

imputed sin

Personal Sin

Personal Sin

Imputed Sin or Original Sin is the disobedient act of Adam in the Garden of Eden. This one act was imputed to and caused death upon the entire human family and every person born since, carries within them, the sin of Adam and Eve.

"When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned... For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous." Romans 5:12,19 NLT

Personal Sin

Personal sins are sins that humanity commits in our flesh by actions or thoughts. We sin without trying and without ceasing.

Personal Sins are divided into two categories.

1. Sins of commission- acts of disobedience

2. Sins of omission- failure to do that what is right

Personal sins will not prevent anyone from entering God’s kingdom. Just as personal righteousness will not place anyone into the Kingdom of God.

"God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it." Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT)

There is nothing man can do to earn his salvation. Mankind's hands are dripping with the blood of their sins. Every attempt to work toward salvation is bloodstained and is repulsive to God.

"But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags.." Isaiah 64:6 (NKJV)

The importance of imputed sin

The knowledge and understanding of Imputed Sin is the foundation of Salvation. Without this knowledge, people cannot fully grasps why they need the Savior. This is where religion comes into the picture. Religion is the opposite of a saving relationship with the one true God.

In fact, religion is the greatest enemy of The Kingdom of God. In religion mankind is attempting to please or receive favor from a deity through their faith or good deeds. Relying on one’s religious credentials is deceptive and very dangerous.

Religion denies three things:

1. Human Nature is Evil

2. Man is Born Separated from God

3. Works Cannot be Offered to God

Religion also teaches humanity to stay away from God’s righteousness claiming that mankind can come to God apart from Christ Jesus. Because humanity does not have the power within himself to accomplish this God has to call us to Christ by His Holy Spirit.

"For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, and at the last day I will raise them up." John 6:44 (NLT)

Douay-Rheims Version: The Doctrine of Original Sin

“Adam’s Sin brought devastating consequences: death and the upset of the harmonious balance between God, man, and creation. In addition, the will of man is forever weakened by the first sin. Original sin, the loss of original justice and holiness, impacted the progeny of Adam and Eve through weakness of will. Man no longer harbors original justice and holiness and instead is drawn toward evil and selfish pleasures. We call this weakness of the will concupiscence. The continuing temptations of Satan and the loss of the gifts of original holiness and justice marred the soul of Adam, and as he is the head of the human race all of his descendants were likewise convicted. The stain of original sin is inherited by all humans at the moment of conception and brings its effects of ignorance, concupiscence, death and suffering.”

"We're not sinners because we sin. We sin because we are sinners." ~Josh Allen
